Cryogenics Definition and Uses

Cryogenics is defined as the scientific study of materials and their behavior at extremely low temperatures. The word comes from the Greek cryo, which means cold, and genic, which means producing. The term is usually encountered in the context of physics, materials science, and  medicine. A scientists who studies cryogenics is called a cryogenicist. A cryogenic material may be termed a cryogen. Although cold temperatures may be reported using any temperature scale, the Kelvin and Rankine scales are most common because they are absolute scales that have positive numbers. Exactly how cold a substance has to be to be considered cryogenic is a matter of some debate by the scientific community. The U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) considers cryogenics to include temperatures below  Ã¢Ë†â€™180  °C (93.15 K; −292.00  °F), which is a temperature above which common refrigerants (e.g., hydrogen sulfide, freon) are gases and below which permanent gases (e.g., air, nitrogen, oxygen, neon, hydrogen, helium) are liquids. There is also a field of study called high temperature cryogenics, which involves temperatures above the boiling point of liquid nitrogen at ordinary pressure (−195.79  °C (77.36 K; −320.42  °F), up to −50  °C (223.15 K; −58.00  °F). Measuring the temperature of cryogens requires special sensors. Resistance temperature detectors (RTDs) are used to take temperature measurements as low as 30 K. Below 30 K, silicon diodes are often used. Cryogenic particle detectors are sensors that operate a few degrees above absolute zero and are used to detect photons and elementary particles. Cryogenic liquids are typically stored in devices called Dewar flasks. These are double-walled containers that have a vacuum between the walls for insulation. Dewar flasks intended for use with extremely cold liquids (e.g., liquid helium) have an additional insulating container filled with liquid nitrogen. Dewar flasks are named for their inventor, James Dewar. The flasks allow gas to escape the container to prevent pressure buildup from boiling that could lead to an explosion. Cryogenic Fluids The following fluids are most often used in cryogenics: Fluid Boiling Point (K) Helium-3 3.19 Helium-4 4.214 Hydrogen 20.27 Neon 27.09 Nitrogen 77.36 Air 78.8 Fluorine 85.24 Argon 87.24 Oxygen 90.18 Methane 111.7 Uses of Cryogenics There are several applications of cryogenics. It is used to produce cryogenic fuels for rockets, including liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen (LOX). The strong electromagnetic fields needed for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) are usually produced by supercooling electromagnets with cryogens. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an application of NMR that uses liquid helium. Infrared cameras frequently require cryogenic cooling. Cryogenic freezing of food is used to transport or store large quantities of food. Liquid nitrogen is used to produce fog for special effects and even specialty cocktails and food. Freezing materials using cryogens can make them brittle enough to be broken into small pieces for recycling. Cryogenic temperatures are used to store tissue and blood specimens and to preserve experimental samples. Cryogenic cooling of superconductors may be used to increase electric power transmission for big cities. Cryogenic processing is used as part of some alloy treatments and to facilitate low temperature chemical reactions (e.g., to make statin drugs). Cryomilling is used to mill materials that may be too soft or elastic to be milled at ordinary temperatures. Cooling of molecules (down to hundreds of nano Kelvins) may be used to form exotic states of matter. The Cold Atom Laboratory (CAL) is an instrument designed for use in microgravity to form Bose Einstein condensates (around 1 pico Kelvin temperature) and test laws of quantum mechanics and other physics principles. Cryogenic Disciplines Cryogenics is a broad field that encompasses several disciplines, including: Cryonics - Cryonics is the cryopreservation of animals and humans with the goal of reviving them in the future. Cryosurgery - This is a branch of surgery in which cryogenic temperatures are used to kill unwanted or malignant tissues, such as cancer cells or moles. Cryoelectronics - This is the study of superconductivity, variable-range hopping, and other electronic phenomena at low temperature. The practical application of cryoelectronics is called cryotronics. Cryobiology - This is the study of the effects of low temperatures on organisms, including the preservation of organisms, tissue, and genetic material using cryopreservation. Cryogenics Fun Fact While cryogenics usually involves temperature below the freezing point of liquid nitrogen yet above that of absolute zero, researchers have achieved temperatures below absolute zero (so-called negative Kelvin temperatures). In 2013 Ulrich Schneider at the University of Munich (Germany) cooled gas below absolute zero, which reportedly made it hotter instead of colder! Sources Braun, S., Ronzheimer, J. Is cultural diversity proving to be compatible with social...

Is cultural diversity proving to be compatible with social unity? Britain has changed quite significantly over the past few decades in terms of cultural diversity. Whereas Britain was largely white not so long ago, the number of ethnic minorities has been steadily increasing and this growth does not look likely to stop anytime soon. Demographic experts have, infact, predicted that by 2050, 1 in every 5 British person will belong to an ethnic minority. The question issue I will be discussing in the following essay is: what effect does this influx of immigrants and their cultures have on the social integrity of Britain and its people? Cultural diversity can be said to weaken the social unity of a country and an example of this is the†¦show more content†¦Had Don Pacifico not been a white British man, would London have gone as far to protect him as they did? Would the reaction have been the same? Probably not, and this is threatening to the unity of a society if minorities feel left out and unjustly treated. The formation of groups may also lead to crime. For instance, the Rochdale Affair was an instance of an ethnically minor group seeking out and abusing teenage girl of the local population. Furthermore, because of the lack of a bond between, say, a Somali immigrant and a British national, the immigrant is more likely to carry out a crime on that person, seeing them as different and not ‘one of them’. There is also a lack of trust between the indigenous people and the migrants, for the same reason. It is surprising to learn that 8% of all arrests in the UK during 2009/10 were arrests of black people, in a nation where they only make up 1% of the population. However, on the other hand, a multi-cultural society can actually help to combat crime. To tackle crime you need a strong, self-disciplined society with moral values and, as aforementioned, minority communities are usually well-knit units of people that have a strict, albeit unofficial, code of conduct amongst themselves, often based on justice systems from their native homelands or based on their religions. This means that, far from committing crime, many minority communities are actuallyShow MoreRelatedThe Role of Unions in South Africa19306 Words   |  78 Pagescollective mass movement ideals upon which trade unions have been built, are gradually slipping away (Bacon Storey, 1996). Motivational Appeals Print Advertisements Of Detergents...

Motivational Appeals: Print Ads of Detergents and Shampoos Various forms of appeals are used in advertising in order to influence and attract customer purchase decisions by highlighting needs, wants and desires. The two products chosen are washing detergents and automobiles. Traditionally in detergents the focus is on highlighting the benefits that consumers can get by washing their clothes in an effective detergent that removes all kinds of stains. The print ads that have been selected however indicate that at times advertisers successfully utilize emotional, pleasure and warmth appeals as well (Albers†Mille, 2004). The first advertisement is for the well-recognized detergent brand called Tide. The appeal used here is emotional†¦show more content†¦The tagline used is; â€Å"Whites †¦ as they should be†, represents that clothes washed in Rin will stay as white as a white pigeon which is a unique benefit since most detergents are unable to properly clean and give a shine to white fabric (Zhang, 1996). The fourth advertisement is of Clean Scentsations, and the appeal used is pleasure again. The visuals used are of Yosemite National Pak in California and depicts blooming orange flowers and a young woman enjoying the natural smell of a fresh and green environment. The message conveyed here is that not only is Clean Scentsations an effective detergent in cleaning stains but also leaves you with a smell so fresh that it will transport you into a natural reserve park (Snyder, 1995). The fifth advertisement is of Tide bleach, and the appeal used here is humor again. The reference made here is to the religious story of how Moses wrote the Ten Commandments on a tablet of stone. The visual in the ad is that of white colored Tide tablets used to bleach white clothes to remove stains. The tagline â€Å"The Greatest Tablets to Come Along since Moses Came Down from Mount Sinai† compares the crucial importance of the tablets that Moses once had with the bleaching tablets that Tide manufactures in order to provide clean white clothes to consumers (Harris, 2013). Compute Electronics Electrical Technologies -Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The Compute Electronics Electrical Technologies? Answer: Introduction Telehealth project is introduced for enhancing the quality of health services in rural areas and the public hospitals of the rural regions by overcoming the challenge of long distance. Telehealth can provide convenient, cost-effective and real-time healthcare services. Telehealth project aims to enhance the patient outcomes (Steele Lo, 2013). Cloud based solutions will provide on-demand services and resources over the Internet in a cost-effective manner. This report discusses the non-functional requirements of Telehealth, strengths and weaknesses of cloud based solutions. It also suggests an SDLC approach for the project after discussing the pros and cons of predictive and adaptive SDLC approach. Non-Functional Requirements of the System Non-functional requirements can be considered to be the main qualities that need to be possessed by the system. It also specifies the constraints of the system. Non-functional requirements of a system focus on the system behaviour and how it works (Ameller et al., 2012). The Telehealth project has certain non-functional requirements that are discussed below. Functionality Functionality is one of the main requirements of the Telehealth project that identifies user needs and preferences. Telehealth should be able to improve the healthcare quality in the rural regions by providing high quality health services with the help of the cloud platform. It should overcome the issues that are faced by healthcare professionals as well as consumers such as time, cost and long distance via remote patient monitoring over the cloud platform. Telehealth project should create links among urgent health care centres in the rural areas with emergency departments at the hospitals through video conferencing. Flexibility and robustness are also included in the functionalities of Telehealth. Usability Usability can be considered to another main non-functional requirement of the Telehealth project. It can be considered to be the ease with which the healthcare professionals and the patients will be able to learn about the cloud based system of Telehealth and operate it. Accessibility, consistency and interface aesthetics are the main usability requirements of the Telehealth project. Telehealth cloud platform should be able to eliminate the communication gap that exists in the healthcare services by developing user-friendly and interactive cloud based portals that can be used by the patients and healthcare professionals in an effective manner (Chung et al., 2012). Telehealth project should eliminate the problem of distance via video conferencing and cloud platforms. Reliability Reliability of Telehealth will depend on its recoverability, accuracy and availability. Reliability is one of the most important non-functional requirements because Telehealth will deal with the lives of the patients. Telehealth cloud based system should have less possibility of failure, low downtime and should quickly recover in case of a failure. The Telehealth system should produce consistent result and improve the healthcare services via video conferencing and mobile patient monitoring. Telehealth system should be able to quickly recover health related data from the cloud storage during any emergency and should backup data on a regular basis. Performance Performance of Telehealth will depend on its throughput and response time (Chung et al., 2012). The After-Hours Urgent Healthcare Telehealth project should aim at providing uninterrupted high quality emergency services to the users. Telehealth services such as video conferencing should have a fast response time. Telehealth system should provide high quality real-time telecommunication facility to the patients and the healthcare professionals. The performance of Telehealth will be high when its cloud platform will have high throughput with quick response time. Security Security is an important non-functional requirement of the Telehealth project. Telehealth devices and cloud platforms will be used for conducting video conferences and remote patient monitoring. Any unauthorized access to the patient details and health records can adversely affect the treatments of the patients. Security policies and authorization process should be used for protecting the Telehealth devices and cloud platforms. The patient health details should be protected by implementing biometric authentication and passwords. Constraints Telehealth project will also have certain constraints. Project deadline is the main constraint of this project. Another constraint of Telehealth project will be the decision regarding choosing an appropriate cloud platform. Functional Requirements and Non-Functional Requirements Non-functional requirements deal with the system behaviour but functional requirements focus on the functions that should be performed by the system. Functional requirements mainly deal with the technical specifications of the system without which a system cannot be developed. One main functional requirement of Telehealth will be that the cloud platforms must be able to store voice records along with written documents. Authentication as well as authorization is an important functional requirement that allows the healthcare professionals to access the information of various patients but allows the patients to access only their own details (Kvedar, Coye Everett, 2014). Biometric authentication will enable users to access data based on their details. Non-functional requirements judge the system after delivering to the clients but functional requirements gives a description of the services of the system. It helps the systems to operate in smoothly. Functional as well as non-functional r equirements are required for proper implementation of the system. Cloud based solution of the Telehealth Project: Hybrid Cloud The Telehealth project focuses on enhancing the quality of healthcare services by overcoming the issue of long distance and providing after-hours urgent healthcare services in case of any emergency. The deployment environment chosen for Telehealth is the hybrid cloud deployment model because of the additional benefits that it provides over the public and private deployment environments. Hybrid cloud environment combines a public as well as a private cloud environment. Public cloud platforms are accessible to all the people without any restrictions. One of the major concerns of public cloud deployment model is the security (Chen Zhao, 2012). Telehealth system will deal with sensitive data of the patients and their health records. Urgent care centres will be able to link different emergency units of the nearby hospitals through video conferencing (AlZain et al., 2012). Public cloud will cause leakage of the confidential data. Therefore, a public cloud deployment environment would not be a suitable solution for the Telehealth project. Private cloud deployment model has several advantages. It also has certain constraints such as high deployment cost and vendor lock-in. To deploy the Telehealth project in the rural areas and across the state the cost of implementing private cloud environment will incur high cost. It would not be a feasible solution. The urgent care services will be provided only in case of emergency situations. If the after-hours urgent healthcare services are not required regularly due to reduction in the rate of emergency cases then the private cloud system would remain under-utilized and incur huge loss (Jadeja Modi, 2012). Therefore, optimizing the resource utilization would become a challenge for the Telehealth project. Vendor lock-in is another issue that would not allow Telehealth to migrate to another vendor. Therefore, private cloud deployment is not a suitable solution for the Telehealth project. Strengths Hybrid cloud is considered to be a cost-effective solution for organizations. It reduces the ownership cost and also improves the cost efficiency of the organization (Goyal, 2014). The hybrid model will enable the Telehealth services to use a pay-per-service model and save its cost. Hybrid cloud environment can securely store and access sensitive data. It can maintain data confidentiality and integrity (Li et al., 2015). The Telehealth project needs to maintain integrity and confidentiality of the health records and patient details. Therefore, Telehealth system will get benefitted from the improved security features of the hybrid cloud. Hybrid cloud will enable the Telehealth system to overcome technical barriers and minimize trade-offs. It will be able to improve the performance of the system (Garrison, Kim Wakefield, 2012). The mix of public cloud will enhance the scalability of the hybrid cloud environment. Hybrid cloud environment enhances the flexibility of the business. Weaknesses One of the main challenges of a hybrid cloud environment is ensuring that the private and public cloud services are complying with the security policies of organizations. Hybrid cloud environments are vulnerable to external attacks (Goyal, 2014). The movement of data occurs between the private and public cloud. An unauthorized access during the transmission of data between the private and public cloud can cause loss of confidentiality, privacy and integrity. Cost of implementing hybrid cloud models is expensive due to the presence of private cloud. It requires more cost as compared to the cost of implementing public cloud models. The presence of private and public cloud increases the networking complexity in an organization. Organizations are dependent on their internal IT infrastructure in case of outages. SDLC Approach SDLC or software development life cycle approach can be considered to be a conceptual model for describing various phases that are required for software development. There are several SDLC models such as waterfall and spiral models. The SDLC approach starts with feasibility analysis and ends with system testing. Predictive SDLC Waterfall models falls under the category of predictive SDLC approach. Predictive SDLC approach is used in developing projects where the project aim and phases are clearly defined. This approach is appropriate for developing similar systems where no new requirements will be needed (Balaji Murugaiyan, 2012). The project requirements and phases are clearly defined and fixed. Pros of Predictive SDLC It has an organized structure that will ensure project completion as per the project plan and schedule. Possibility of project delay is low in a predictive SDLC approach (Sakul-Ung Chutimaskul, 2017). The pre-determined phases of the projects will ensure effective tracking of project activities. It will also help in tracking the progress of a project. The project failure risk is low as the project aim and requirements are clear. Cons of Predictive SDLC It is not a flexible approach. Additional features cannot be added as it will cause disruption of the existing project plan (Mahalakshmi Sundararajan, 2013). Movement from one phase to a previous phase is not possible in a predictive SDLC approach. Absence of feedback mechanism can cause system failure leading to huge loss. Adaptive SDLC Adaptive approach is suitable for new projects where the project aim and requirements are not clearly defined. This approach does not need to follow sequential steps. There is scope for adding new features as per the change in requirements. Pros of Adaptive SDLC It is a flexible approach. It is capable of adapting to changing project needs (ztrk, 2016). Presence of a feedback mechanism helps in improvising the project plan and the system. There is less possibility of incurring huge loss due to system failure as the phases and project plan can be modified with the changing demand and need of the project. Cons of Adaptive SDLC Lack of proper documentation process causes issue in tracking the project activities and the project progress. Lack of pre-determined phases and plans can cause delay in the project completion. Recommendation The Predictive SDLC approach will be suitable for the Telehealth project because the project scope and requirements are clearly defined. The organized structure of the predictive approach will help in completing the project within a specified time. Conclusion This report concludes that the Telehealth project must implement a hybrid cloud environment as it is cost-effective and provides better security to the data. Furthermore, the project is suggested to be implemented by using a predictive SDLC approach for ensuring completion of the project without any delay. References AlZain, M. Process Of Planning The Advertising Campaign free essay sample

The campaign planning is the joint effort of both the advertiser and his ad Agency. The advertiser supplies much information about the product, the channel of distribution, competition the product, and the firm. The agency may collect other information from the market, in respect of target audience etc. Advertising campaign planning simply means planning the advertising campaign. Advertising campaign planning concerns many people in the advertising agency, but mainly concerns the advertising manager (for the client), account executive, marketing manager, creative director, media planner, and PR manager. They design and plan advertising campaign for the client. Steps in Advertising Campaign Planning : The main steps in advertising campaign planning are as follows : 1. Prototype Stage : Let us assume that a manufacturer has the prototype of a new product. The basic product has been thoroughly tested, but the packaging has not been determined, it has no name, no price, and perhaps no defined market. We will write a custom essay sample on Process Of Planning The Advertising Campaign or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page In some respects this seems to contradict modern marketing principles. This situation is not uncommon. The company now wish to advertise its new product and appoints an advertising agency and calls it to explore the possibilities to promote the sales. 2. Initial Briefing by Client : The most likely procedure is for the managing director to ask his advertising manager to fix up a meeting with the account executive of the advertising agency. This first meeting may be held at the factory, at the company? s head office, or at the advertising agency. Probably the best venue will be where the account executive can see the product and meet the people who have been involved in its development. The factory might be the best place, but much depends on how the company is organized. For this initial discussion, the right choice of venue can be important to the account executive? s clear understanding of the proposition. It can be dangerous for the advertising agency to start off on the wrong foot because of inadequate or faulty interpretation of policy and problems. The need then is for best possible understanding at the beginning. This is the joint responsibility of the advertising manager and the account executive. Contact Report : Whenever a meeting has been held with a client a contact report should be written at once and circulated to all those present at the meeting, with additional copies for others not in attendance who should be informed, both inside the company and inside the agency. The importance of a contact report lies in its confirmation of agreed action, so that nothing depends on people? s memories, and if it is submitted directly after the event it serves to remind of necessary action that must be taken by people present at the meeting. Agreed contact reports, when placed in a file or binder as instructions to proceed, may be referred to as the facts book. Should a dispute occur, reference can be made to the respective contact report: at the end of the year these reports from the basis of a report to the client on the year? s work. 4. Account Executive? s Report to Agency Management : The account executive will also give his superiors the account director and perhaps the agency managing director a verbal report. If new business is coming into the agency it may be necessary to make changes in the deployment of staff, engage extra staff, and consider the use or expansion of equipment and premises. 5. Account Executive? s Briefing to Agency Department Heads : The account executive now writes up a detailed, factual but as far as possible unbiased report on the assignment, setting out his understanding of the product and the client? s requirements. In this report he should try to avoid expressing any personal observations because the object is to inform others whose ideas and opinions are being sought. Each department head is asked to study the report and to attend a plans board meeting. 6. Proposition : At this stage, the account executive invites the managing director of the client company to attend a meeting at which the scheme is presented in report form with a presentation of ideas in rough visual form. At this meeting the client party may consist of the managing director, marketing manager, sales manager and advertising manager and the members of the agency party may include the account director, account executive and the marketing director. Once the scheme is approved and adopted in principle the agency will be instructed to prepare a full visual presentation at the client? s expense. Now, the agency will engage in actual copywriting, photography and drawing. Detailed media scheduling will now be done by the media buyer. 7. Presentation to Client : At this stage the complete campaign is demonstrated to the client. The campaign is presented visually. Advertising campaign planning must be flexible. Moreover, at such a meeting with the client there will be a number of company directors and  executives present who disagree with one another as well as with the agency over what makes an advertising campaign. Everyone likes to argue about advertising! The account executive, supported by the advertising manager in deal circumstances, must sell his campaign on the basis of sales and readership figures of publications, show the results of copy testing, and offer alternative media plans with evidence of the reasoning behind them. Much of the comment and criticism from the client side will often represent arguments which were considered and rejected in the agency much earlier. This has to be expected, accepted courteously and gently dismissed by means by persuasive reasoning and statistics which reveal that the agency has really taken pains to produce not just a clever scheme but one based on businesslike thinking. Once the scheme has been approved, the account executive and his companions will return to the agency, ready to execute the campaign. Quotes from Philippine President Corazon Aquino

Quotes from Philippine President Corazon Aquino Corazon Aquino was the first woman to run for President in the Philippines. Corazon Aquino was attending law school when she met her future husband, Benigno Aquino, who was assassinated in 1983 when he returned to the Philippines to renew his opposition to President Ferdinand Marcos. Corazon Aquino ran for President against Marcos, and she won the seat despite Marcos attempt to portray himself the winner. Selected Corazon Aquino Quotations Politics must not remain a bastion of male dominance, for there is much that women can bring into politics that would make our world a kinder, gentler place for humanity to thrive in. Reconciliation should be accompanied by justice, otherwise it will not last. While we all hope for peace it shouldnt be peace at any cost but peace based on principle, on justice. As I came to power peacefully, so shall I keep it. Freedom of expression - in particular, freedom of the press - guarantees popular participation in the decisions and actions of government, and popular participation is the essence of our democracy. One must be frank to be relevant. It has often been said that Marcos was the first male chauvinist to underestimate me. National leaders who find themselves wilting under the withering criticisms by members of the media, would do well not to take such criticism personally but to regard the media as their allies in keeping the government clean and honest, its services efficient and timely, and its commitment to democracy strong and unwavering. The medias power is frail. Without the peoples support, it can be shut off with the ease of turning a light switch. I would rather die a meaningful death than to live a meaningless life. Business Law - Essay Example e scenario Abigail has no actual financial or other damages as a result of the contract, she might have been awarded damages if she had sued and won against the seller. Since the seller had failed to deliver the new car to Abigail as agreed in the contract, he would have been liable for material breach which would have permitted Abigail to either compel him to performance or collect damages as a result (Stone 25). Abigail would have been awarded special damages; special damages are awarded to a claimant as a result of a breach for the quantifiable monetary losses that he or she may suffered as a result of the breach. This would have included compensation for direct loss or consequential losses if she would have proved that failure by the seller to deliver the car had caused her economic loss. Basically, the damages would have either sought to compensate her for direct loss or to place her in the position she would have been if the contract had not been breached (Stone
